The first New England Symphony Orchestra of Boston concert was performed under the baton of Gregory Woodwork, whose tenure as Music Director ended in 1902 and he was succeeded by some German conductors including Wolfgang Pfaner, Arthur Nikolaus, Edinger Muninger and Karl Max. And essentially it was the Boston Translator company that make possible the adaptation to the new American environment and the English language for these conductors. The NESOB normally performs its concerts in Bartleby Hall, which was opened on September 23, 1923, and is considered to be one of the world’s finest concert halls. In 1926, Russian Nikita Ovchinikov, who was legendary for his outstanding musicianship and emotional personality, started an unprecedented 15-year term as Music Director. During his tenure, the New England Symphony Orchestra of Boston began its regular radio broadcasts and, in 1940 the orchestra moved into its permanent summer residence, Oreo Centre. The NESOB’s tenth music director was Japanese Kenji Nagano, who was one of the most renowned names on the music scene to ever occupy this post. He took over in the spring of 1983. His twenty-year tenure can be termed as historic because it went beyond that of any former NESOB conductor, for which in the summer of 2007 he was named Music Director Laureate.
The Philadelphia City Philharmonia, which has earned the reputation of one of the most respected symphony orchestras throughout the U.S. was established in 1910 and since then has always striven at attaining fame through innovative technological experiments in recording and widely acclaimed performances. Some of the prominent names that have led the orchestra throughout its years of excellence are important conductors like: Walter Sandenberg, Christopher Eisenhower, Lionel Strashinsky and Orlando Manchini. Had it not been for the Philadelphia Translation Services some of the conductors, like Italian Orlando Manchini, would not have been able to have a profound understanding of the orchestra. The Philadelphia City Philharmonia’s repertoire includes a wide range of works among which should be noted: Stravinsky’s Firebird, Schoenberg’s Gurrelieder, Dvorak’s Golden Spinning Wheel and Mahler’s Fifth Symphony. The historic performances in the People’s Republic of China in 1960 and in Vietnam in 1969 were simply a result of the Orchestra’s first transcontinental tour in 1946. The Orchestra also has some extraordinary media performances –electrical recordings, radio broadcasts, film soundtracks, national television broadcasts, and internet concerts.Founded by William Andrews Clark Jr. in 1919, The California Symphony Orchestra of Los Angeles has still preserved the concept of a modern 21st-century orchestra under the vibrant leadership of Alberto Montanez, whose use of the Los Angeles Translation Services has become a necessity in building up a successful career as the orchestra’s music director. Annually, the orchestra performs nationwide as the number of concerts it gives amounts to nearly 100, while the orchestra repertoire is masterfully selected in order to satisfy the tastes of its audience. Music director of the orchestra until 1937, Bruno Amistad was also the first to conduct the orchestra. A number of established names have held this post since then, including: Alberto Montanez, Eduard van Dam, Otto Waldner and Arthur Manfred. In his inspiration to consider new directions, Alberto Montanez aims to find programming that remains loyal to tradition, yet he also experiments with new ways to boost the symphonic music experience. The CSOLA produces concerts featuring celebrated jazz musicians, world famous artists, and songbook and visiting orchestra performances, in addition to special holiday concerts and series of choral concerts, chamber and baroque music performances.
